Results: Key themes were: the motif to build long-term giveing relationships; ensuring that the procedures and practices used were respectful; compensable attention to logistical considerations with respect to funding, the mess of the research and pickings proactive locomote to overcome language-related barriers; and the importance of effective spreading of results to, amongst others, the minority ethnic groups under study. The use of monetary incentives or co-payments was reported as being a success enoughy-employed strategy in the US context, which could be considered for use in the UK. Conclusions: There is a need for funders and res earchers to cover proactive steps to develo! p longer-term relationships strengthened on trust and respect with the populations they wish to study.
